Wintersmith

The British are masters of domestic comedy. Be it Monty Python's Flying Circus or P G Wodehouse's Jeeves and Wooster, those islander's really know how to tickle our funny bones. One of the most funny author's around today is Terry Pratchett. His latest fantasy of alternate realities is Wintersmith (Doubleday, $44.95). Once more unto the breach! fans of this phenomenon shall call. People who have not read any of the Discworld books may be loath to start so late to this author's series, but don't be - jump in and enjoy what Pratchett has been doing for over 20 years. Wintersmith follows the fortunes of Tiffany Aching who is stalked by the spirit of Winter, who showers her with gifts of snow storms and avalanches. Thank goodness the Nac Mac Feegles are there to help her. Och aye!
