The Changeling

I had recently read Sean William’s Saturn Returns and been bowled over by the strength of that adult novel. Barely six weeks later I was reading The Changeling and wondering if I was reading the same author. How can this man write such strong fiction for such different markets without changing his step? Each book was a master-piece of speculative fiction. The Changeling records the adventures of Ros, who is forced from his father’s drought ravaged farm by his mysterious friend, Escher. Escher helps Ros unlock his extraordinary ability to use The Change, which taps into the elemental forces of the world. During his adventures Ros learns an invaluable lesson on the nature of truth and who to trust. Sean Williams is without doubt the premier Australian speculative fiction writer of the age. His skills continue to grow apace and it is difficult to see where it will end. His skill is as limitless as the universe. He deserves to be placed along-side Gaiman, Martin and Moon.
