Former ad-man John Flanagan has had the first book in his YA RANGER'S APPRENTICE series, The Ruins of Gorlan, published by Penguin in the US.  The Sydney-sider wrote the first book in the RANGER'S APPRENTICE series to encourage his 12-year-old son to enjoy reading, and then went on to write three further volumes.
