New Alastair Reynolds interview

An interview conducted by Aurealis Art Director, Andrew McKiernan with Alastair Reynolds can be found at the interviews section of the website.

Alastair Reynolds was in Australia this year to promote his new books, Galactic North and Pushing Ice published by Gollancz. Born in North Wales, Alastair Reynolds has a Ph.D. in astronomy and since 1991 has lived in the Netherlands where he works as an astrophysicist for the European Space Agency. His books have been short listed for major British SF awards. Chasm City won the British Science Fiction Award.

Aurealis magazine Australia Council grant for 2007

Aurealis magazine has been successful in its grant application from the Australia Council Literature Board for 2007. This will mean increased pay rates for authors appearing in issues #38 and #39 to be published in 2007. Now is the time to send us your best story for consideration. See our guidelines. Now is also the time to take out a subscription to Aurealis as our policy has always been to fast-track the reading and evaluation of submissions from subscribers.

11th annual Aurealis Awards Ceremony

The 11th annual Aurealis Awards Ceremony will be at 6.00pm on Saturday 27th January 2007 at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts, 420 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley, Queensland.  This event will be teeming with authors, publishers, literary agents and readers, including hosts Kim Wilkins and Sean Williams, US editor Gardner Dozois and Aurealis magazine editor Stuart Mayne.

Everyone is welcome at this celebration of Australian achievement in speculative fiction brought to you by Fantastic Queensland.  Tickets are $27.50 and include post-ceremony tail function where drinks and food will be served. HarperCollins to publish YA fantasy title by 14 year old

Alexandra Adornetto, a MacRobertson Girls High School student has been signed to a two book deal by HarperCollins' Children's publisher Lisa Berryman. Having finished The Shadow Thief and sent to HarperCollins' slush pile, Alexandra had to wait almost a year before she had heard that the publisher had picked up her novel.

The novel tells the story of Millipop and Ernest who live in Drabville, where residents are having their shadows stolen.

Chimaera Publications announces new editors to Aurealis

The publishers of Aurealis are pleased to announce that Stephen Higgins and Stuart Mayne are the new editors of Aurealis.

Stephen Higgins needs little introduction. Co-founder of Aurealis magazine, with Dirk Strasser in 1990, Stephen has decided to return to the magazine he loves with a passion. Stephen is looking to return Aurealis to the forefront of Australian speculative fiction.

Stuart Mayne has been working with Chimaera Publications for the past three years, marketing the book list and editing aurealisXpress. He has worked as a book and magazine editor since 1991. He is an expert on Australian crime fiction author, Arthur Upfield, editing Upfield's last published novel.
